I'm very proud of my final 5 for raising $60,000 for Des Moines charities!

Des Moines Register; Entrepreneur wins 'App-rentice' contest!

A Garnavillo inventor has won “My People App-rentice: Des Moines,” an eight-week challenge to find the next great entrepreneur.

Brandon Adams, 24, won $5,000 in the contest. The final task was raising money for charities, and Adams raised $33,000 for Endure Iowa, which provides assistance to cancer patients and their families.

In all, the five finalists raised $60,000 for charities, said Tana Goertz, a radio host and finalist in Donald Trump’s “The Apprentice.” The contest was her brainchild.

Adams, who works for his family’s ice company, has also developed a device to cool drinks called the Arctic Stick.

The final five were Allie Marten, who competed for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; Justin Williams, Best Buddies Iowa; Matt Kaldenberg, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa; and Jim Weaver, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Iowa Chapter.

The contest pitted 50 contestants who completed tasks aimed at promoting the contest sponsor, My People App, a mobile tech firm based in Urbandale.
