I understand how a baseball team can hit out of order, given how chaotic the lineup can get near the end of the game with double switches and so on and so forth.
But hitting out of order….in the first inning? That seems more than a little difficult to pull off.
Unless, of course, you’re the New York Mets.
This happens in little league or farm league when one of the batters is in the snack shack or bathroom, instead of being on deck. Doesn't happen in the majors--or wait it did happen in the majors. Can someone send this down to the third base dugout? https://t.co/htjvJss5k1— Cincinnati Reds (@Reds) May 9, 2018
In what might be the most Mets thing to ever happen... they just batted out of order.— Tim and Sid (@timandsid) May 9, 2018
Asdrubal Cabrera hit 2nd instead of 3rd in the 1st inning and his double was erased after Cincy manager Jim Riggleman alerted the umpire. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️pic.twitter.com/n1GCKAUQcd
