Football Fan Holding Beer Money Sign Raises $2.95 Million For Charity

Carson King announced that his viral "beer money" fundraiser raised nearly $3 million. King made national headlines when he was captured in the crowd during ESPN's College GameDay holding a sign asking people to send him money to replenish his supply of Busch Light.

After he appeared on television, money started pouring in his Venmo account. Instead of keeping the cash, he decided to donate the money to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. As word of his generosity spread, a few companies stepped up and offered to make matching donations to the hospital.

King appeared on the Murph and Andy Show on iHeartRadio station 1460 KXNO and announced that people had sent over $924,000 in donations to his Venmo account. With the matching contributions, King was proud to announce the hospital will be receiving a donation of $2.95 million.

The Stead Family Children's Hospital released a statement thanking everybody for their generosity.

"The funds will help us provide the best care possible for our patients," said Suresh Gunasekaran, CEO, University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. "We are grateful to be part of such a spontaneous, remarkable occurrence that brought together so many people. One simple act of kindness sparked a nationwide cause behind which we could all unite – helping children heal."

King says that money is still being sent to his Venmo account and he hopes that they can surpass $3 million.
