Valley-Dowling Playoff Game Cancelled

West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) learned today that individuals on the Valley football team tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, and to prioritize student safety, the quarterfinal matchup between Valley and Dowling Catholic scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, has been canceled.

While this is a disappointing way to end the 2020 football season, WDMCS remains dedicated to doing what we can to minimize the spread of COVID-19. We wish to remind family and community members to do their part as well by wearing face masks in public, practicing physical distancing, regularly washing hands, and staying home when sick.

Brad Rose, Valley athletics and activities director, is appreciative of the efforts coaches and athletes took this fall to successfully complete their regular season.

“I am heartbroken for the players, families, coaches and Valley fans, but we are very proud of all the team has accomplished this fall. Overall, we have to do what is safe for both our team and our opponents,” stated Rose.

Individuals who purchased tickets in advance for Friday night’s game can choose to either donate the ticket amount to the athletic department or be reimbursed. To receive a reimbursement, you can emailToni Wiemers. You will be sent a reimbursement form to complete along with instructions for where to turn in your request. Please keep the pre-sold ticket to include with the completed form.
