ROBERTS: The Weird Things We (I) Do As ( A Giants) Fans

As most of you know, I'm a big New York Giants fan. They're now getting ready to play in the Divisional Round of the NFC Playoffs, which is an amazing feat since they're technically in year one of a rebuild. It has been a fun ride this season, and especially last week as they beat the Minnesota Vikings to advance to the next round of the playoffs.

I found myself last week leading up to the game, and on the day of the game, doing some (maybe) weird or superstitious things. I get anxiety about a lot of things in life, but when it comes to my sports teams and big games, I've found ways for me to settle down... or mellow out.

You might think it's weird, but I go back and watch old games and/or highlights from years past of big games that my team has played in, and won. Last week I went back and watched previous highlights of Giants playoff runs, then on Sunday morning I woke extra early and re watched the 2000 NFC Championship game as I cleaned the apartment.

In that 2000 NFC Championship game, the Giants were big underdogs and ended up beating the Vikings 41-0 to move on to the Super Bowl. I felt with the Giants being underdogs and playing Minnesota, it was a good time for me to remind myself that it can be done.

This week I've been watching highlights of the 2000 Divisional round game against the Eagles. Tomorrow I’ll pop on the full game and re watch tomorrow morning and get excited as Ron Dixon takes back the opening kickoff. Not sure what will happen tomorrow night, but my superstitions and rituals will hopefully take some of the anxiety out of it…….at least for the start of the game. GGGGOOOO GGGGMMMMEEEENNNN!!!!!!
