WNBA Champions Coming to Des Moines

Minnesota Lynx to Play Preseason Game vs. Washington at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa on May 6

Minnesota to play second preseason game at Target Center on May 12

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Lynx today announced for the first time in franchise history, the team will play a preseason game in Des Moines, Iowa. The game will take place on May 6 at 2:30 p.m. against the Washington Mystics at Wells Fargo Arena, the home of the Iowa Wolves. The team will conclude the 2018 preseason on May 12 at 7 p.m. against the Chicago Sky at Target Center.

“I’m looking forward to bringing the defending WNBA Champion Lynx to Des Moines and to giving that community a chance to watch some of the best professional women’s basketball players in the world,” said Minnesota Timberwolves, Lynx and Iowa Wolves Owner Glen Taylor. “We have three great teams and it’s great to have these opportunities for crossover with our fans and to find ways to continue to bring our franchises closer together.”

The game marks the Lynx 21st off-site preseason game and first since playing in Rochester in 2016. All-time, Minnesota is 27-20 in preseason play after finishing the 2017 preseason with a 2-0 record.

“We look forward to partnering with the Iowa Wolves to bring Lynx basketball to the city of Des Moines,” said Head Coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve. “This is a great opportunity to share our championship team with the fans in Des Moines as well as expand the Lynx and WNBA brands.”

Tickets for the May 6 game in Des Moines go on sale to the general public on April 9 and can be purchased by visiting the Wells Fargo Arena box office or hyveetix.com. Tickets start as low as $15. Taylor announced the purchase of the Iowa Wolves in May 2017. The team, formerly the Iowa Energy, were rebranded as the Wolves and given a logo that aligned the three teams as one organization.

The Lynx will tip off the team’s historic 20th season in the WNBA with their Home Opener presented by Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine on Sunday, May 20 at 4 p.m. at Target Center.
